Kerry AAI uneven Age,Masters &
                 Intermediate Cross Country
The second day of the Kerry AAI Cross Country was held by St Brendans AC
in Ardfert on Sunday last on the lands of Edward and Bernie O’Mahoney.It
was a fantastic day for running with some extraordinary warm weather for
this time of year along with some excellent underfoot conditions.The full
course was 1km long with the juvenile course measuring 700 metres.On the
day there were over 180 competitors along with a large crowd of spectators
which was great so see with many clubs putting in strong performances.The
stand out individuals on the day in the juvenile section were Sean O’Shea
of Iveragh in the u17 4km,Dara Lowth of St Brendans in the u9 500m,Sophie
Lynch of Lios Tuathaill in the u9 500m,Mary Fitzgearld of An Riocht in the
u17 2km,Niamh De Hora of Farranfore/mainevalley in the u15 1500m and Dean
Crowley Gneeveguilla in the u11 800m.Brian Murphy was a clear winner in
the intermediate mens 8km with Caroline Murphy a decisive winner of the
womens event.In the Masters section John Barrett[G/Guilla]took another
county cross country title in the 040 category with Ger Ladden[FFMV]
taking silver making a welcome return to the competition after a break for
a couple of years.Other notable victories came from Mike
O’Shea[Iveragh],Willie O’Riordan[St Brendans],Patrick O’Shea and Lorcan
Murphy[Iveragh] and Mike Browne[G/guilla].In the team scoring Gneeveguilla
look to have the competition wrapped up with 237pts with one event to go
with a close race for second and third with St Brendans on 134pts and
Iveragh on 130pts.
The next Cross Country event is the Munster even ages and Novice next
Sunday in Twomile Borris near Thurles Co.Tipperary.Anybody who finished
top six in the County championships in Killarney is expected to attend to
