The Irish 4 x 100m womens relay team set a new record in Mannheim, Germany at the Junior International on 21-22nd June. The team of Joan Healy, Eilish Fitzpatrick (Gneeveguilla AC), Jane Dickenson, and Niamh Whelan broke the 2004 record of 45.97 with a new mark of 45.95.
At the Womens European Cup in Leira, Portugal, Claire Fitzgerald of Tralee Harriers competed well in the discus event in a top international field with many athletes much older than herself to finish 8th.
In the men’s events in Talin the 4 x 100m relay team finished 2nd with a time of 40.90 to Latvias team. The team consisted Jason Smith, Paul Hession, Patrick Phelan (Tralee Harriers), and Darragh Graham.
The Munster U15 - U19 T&F Championships including U13/U14 Hammer/Discus/Pole Vault took place at the IT Cork over the weekend with plenty of action from the Kerry athletes across all the events. Bilboa AC held their annual Ger Mullane Memorial 10K Race was held on Friday 20th June in Cappamore Co Limerick. Brothers Mike and Pat O’Shea of Iveragh came 1st in the O45 and O55 respectively both crossing the line together in 36.33 mins. Humphrey Murphy of An Ríocht was 3rd in the O45s with a time of 38.07. In the ladies race An Ríocht runner Anne Marie Costelloe finished 3rd with a respectable time of 40.17mins.
