The Munster  Seniors and Juvenile Combined Events were held in
Castleisland on Sunday last with Tralee Harriers dominating the medal
table. The conditions may have looked bright but athletes spent most of
the day battling the wind which was very strong. Claire Fitzgerald won the
shot and discus, Patsy O’Connor took silver in the javelin, shot, 56lb
height, and 56lb distance. Alan O’Connor took gold in the shot and silver
in the discus, Danny O’Connor and Eoin O’Carroll both won a gold in their
respective age groups for the pentathlon, while Danny Pierce took bronze
in the U14 pentathlon and Ciara Walshe came 2nd in the U16 pentathlon
with club mate Sinead O’Connor taking the bronze, and David Boyd took a
bronze medal in both the 100 and 200m. Daniel Clifford won the discus,
Katie O’Shea won the hammer with Maire Flynn coming second, all for
Farranfore/Maine Valley. St Brendans had coach Shane Delaney taking bronze
in the sen javelin, Lisa Brennan 1st in the U18G pentathlon, and Jamie
Green 3rd in the U18 boys pentathlon. Lisa’s twin brother Michael Brennan
took gold in the U18B pentathlon for Spa/Fenit/Barrow. Ciaran McCabe An
Ríocht took gold in the 400m and club mate Mary Fitzgerald took the silver
in the 800m.
