Kerry AAI Article 31/3/08
This weekend saw the annual Plassey 10km road race at the University of Limerick, which last year saw a field of over 500 competitors. This year the course was a little short at 9.4km but this did not hinder the Kerry competitors with Donal O’Callaghan (An Ríocht) finishing with a fantastic time of 30.42 mins. It was great to see Cian Murphy (Iveragh) back on form after a severe bout of flu that has had him out of action for a couple of weeks, he finished 2nd with a time of 30.57 mins. An Ríocht runners were out in force with Eoin McKenna finishing in third place with a time of 32.00 mins and Tom Shanahan finishing 9th in 33.57mins, well done to them all.
Next weekend and the weekend after sees the Woodies DIY National Juvenile Indoor Championships in Nenagh, County Tipperary. Saturday next will see the U12-U19 boys and girls compete in the 60m, 300m, 400m heats and finals and also the 600m and 1500m heats with the finals taking place on the Sunday (6th)when the 60m hurdles will also be decided. The Triple Jump, Long Jump, High Jump and Shot Putt will take place over the two weekends. The following Saturday (12th) will see distances of 200m, 800m, 1000m and 1500m determined and on Sunday (13th) all the relays for the age groups will be held. Good luck to the Kerry athletes travelling to the competition, I hope to have good news of medal winners in the next two weeks
