The Kit Kat All Ireland Schools Track and Field Championships 2008 were
held in Tullamore on Saturday. The rain poured down in during the
steeplechase events but soon cleared up so that even Brian Cowen got a
great view of the action. Kerry had four medal winners, Claire Fitzgerald,
Presentation Tralee who picked up gold’s in the intermediate girls Discus
and the Shot Putt, Emma Prindidhil PS Corca Dhuibhne took a silver in the
IG 2000m Walk, Karen Flynn Presentation Milltown who won a bronze in the
IG Hammer and Emma’s Brother Niall Prindidhil PS Corca Dhuibhne who won a
gold in the 3000m senior boys walk. Other competitors were Louise O’Connor
Mercy Mounthawk, Julie Prendeville Tarbet Comprehensive, Ciara Walsh
Causeway Comprehensive, and Mary Moynihan Castleisland all competed for
the girls while David Hogan Causeway Comprehensive, Andrew Kearney Tralee
CBS, and Clarence Kennedy Mercy Mounthawk all competed for the boys
The finals of the Kerry Primary School Sports were held at the track in
Castleisland on Tuesday evening last. The weather stayed dry for the
evening although it was fairly dark by the time all the events were
finished! The event was well attended by parents and supporters and
thanks must go to the officials and organisers on the night.
