Kerryman Article 4/8/08

Kerry had three athletes competing at the Celtic games in Grangemouth,
Scotland over the weekend. Athletics Ireland won the boys under 16
competition and the girls under 18 competitions at the annual competition.
However, they had to settle for second overall, just seven points behind
Wales - just one point behind in the girls total and six points adrift in
the boys combined total. Eilish Fitzpatrick of Gneeveguilla won the 300m
with a fantastic time of 40.46 and also was part of the U18 4 x 100m
women’s team who also took first place. Marie Flynn of Farranfore Maine
Valley came a close fourth in her Discus competition and Ciara Walsh of
Tralee Harriers also competed well to take fourth place in her high jump
competition with a bar height of 1.45m
The Kilgobnet 4 mile run and walk took place on Friday 1st Aug. In the
senior men’s race Donal O’Callaghan, James Doran and Arthur Fitzgerald all
An Ríocht came in 1st second and third respectively with Andre Navratil
finishing in fourth place. In the O40s Jer Ladden of Keel was first, in
the O45s Humphry Murphy of An Ríocht crossed the line first. Micheal
Mangan of Star of the Laune finished first for the O50 with Mike O’Connor
Farranfore/Maine Valley and P Corkery finishing in top spot for the O55
and O60s respectively. In the Ladies race Anne Marie Costello of
Gneeveguilla was first, Anne O’Shea, also of Gneeveguilla was second and
third was Anne Mangan of Star of the Laune. First place for the juniors
was Karen Curren of Iveragh.

Gneeveguilla are holding their 29th Annual Open Juvenile Sports sponsored
by Dawn Dairies on August 17th at 1pm at the track in Castleisland
