The Munster u15-u19 Indoor championships were held in Nenagh
Co.Tipperary on Saturday and Sunday last.Kerry clubs were out in force
with both Tralee Harriers and St.Brendans AC to the fore.
Gold medal winning performances were plentiful over the weekend with no
fewer than seventeen first places for Kerry athletes.Mary Fitzgearld of An
Riocht AC showed some sparkling early season form winning double gold in
the u17 800m and 1500m.Eilish Fitzpatick of Gneeveguilla AC also had
double gold in the u18 60m and 200m winning both with relative ease.The
other gold medals of the weekend came from Lisa Brennan in the u18
60m/hurdles,Nicola O'Mahoney for the u19 60m hurdles and Conor Slattery in
the u15 1km walk[all St Brendans],Michael Godley in the u16 60m,Danny
O'Connor for the u17 high jump,Andrew Kearney in the u18 high jump and Ben
McGilton in the u19 60m[all Tralee Harriers],Daniel Clifford for the u19
shot and Emma Prendiville in the u16 2km walk[both FF/MV],Conall
O'Callaghan for the u18 60m and Eimear Tagney in the u18 1500m[both Spa
Muckross],and the last two medlas but not the least were Julie
Prenderville of Estuary AC in the u17 2km walk and Eoin O'Muireartaigh for
the u16 2km walk.
Fourteen silver medals were the order of the weekend with Michael Godley
of Tralee Harriers picking up three of these in the u16 high
jump,60m/hurdles and long jump.His team mates Cian Foley,Ben McGilton and
Ciara Walsh also won silver in the u18 60m,u19 200m and u16 high jump
respectively.St Brendans AC silver medal winners were Orla McCarthy in the
u18 triple jump,Shane Dunne for the u16 60m,Maurice O'Carroll in the u15
1km walk,Nicola O'Mahoney for the u19 long jump,Emma leen in the u17 shot
and their boys u16 relay team of Luke Evans,Daniel Lonergan,Maurice
O'Carroll and Shane Dunne.The final two second place finishes came from
Tomas Bradley of An Riocht AC in the u19 1500m and the Gneeveguilla u18
relay team of Amy Moriarty,Breda Casey,Ciara Coffey and Eilish
Fitzpatrick.
The final medals of the weekend came in the colour of bronze with nine of
these being brought home.The Lios Tuathaill u17 boys relay team were
involved in a very high standard race but still managed to finish 3rd;this
team consisted of Brian Murphy,Padraig Whelan,Patrick Costello and Jamie
Barry.The other bronze medals were won by Denis Hayes[FF/MV} in the u17
shot,Cian Foley[Tralee Harriers] for the u18 200m,Orla McCarthy in the u18
60m/hurdles,Ailbhe Courtney in both the u17 high jump and 60m hurdles,Lisa
Brennan in the u18 triple jump and high jump[all St Brendans] and the St
Brendans u18 girls relay team of Emma leen,Ailbhe Coutney,Orla McCarthy
and Lisa Brennan.
Well done to everybody involved with these athletes and to the athletes
who competed but didnt win medals.


The 14th West Limerick Ac 10km road race was held in Adare
Co.Limerick yesterday and Cian murphy of Iveragh Ac was as always in good
form finishing in a well deserved third place in a time of 32.04 .Donal
O'Callaghan of An Riocht Ac also finished a very credible 8th in a time of
33.18.Other finishers were Johnathon Lenniston 33.24,Tony O'Grady
35.54,Karina Teahan 41.35[all Gneeveguilla]
Mike O'Connor FF/MV 41.40,Mary O'Connor An Riocht 44.25,Mary O'Connell
44.26,Catherine Clifford 48.53,Olivia Fitzgearld 51.40,Anna Murphy 52.18
and
Nora Flynn 56.37[All Gneeveguilla].
Niall Prendiville of Farranfore Mainevalley was competing in the Isle of
Man 5km race walk last Saturday and with a very impressive performance
reduced his personal best to 23.30mins.Well done Niall.
