Kerryman Article 9/3/08
On Sunday last the Ballycotton 10 mile race was held in County Cork. It
is the biggest road race of the year. The race was won by Vinny Mulvey,
(Raheny Shamrock AC) with a great time of 50.37 but the Kingdom had a
number of competitors in a field of over 2000 with Cian Murphy (Iveragh)
racing in 10th with a time of 53.34 mins. Donal O’Callaghan (An Riocht)
wasn’t far behind him to come in 18th in 54.56 mins. Steve Griffin (Tralee
Harriers) won the over 50s group with an impressive time of 56.51, with
Jonathon Leniston (Gneeveguilla) crossing the line in 57.48. In the Over
45s group Mike O’Shea (Iveragh) was 3rd in 59.20 and his clubmate Pat
O’Shea came in 1st in the over 55s group in 59.34. Gneeveguilla who have
many fine road runners also had Brendan Lynch (1.03 hrs), Robert Tate
(1.08), Mary O’Connell (1.15.46), Olivia Fitzgerald (1.28) and Nora Flynn
(1.29) crossing the finish line. Congratulations to all those who ran.
The County Juvenile Indoor B Championships took place on March 8th in CBS,
Tralee. The event was very well attended with athletes from 8 of Kerry’s
clubs taking part. The best overall club was Gneeveguilla with Lios
Tuathail in second place and St Brendans in third. Well done to all the
athletes who completed, unfortunately I don’t have the names of the relay
team members
