Sat 10th Jan saw the national senior, junior and masters Combined Events
and inter county relays take place in Nenagh. In the men’s 2x Shot Putt
and the men’s 2 x 56lbs Dist Tralee Harriers took 2nd place in both events
whilst in the senior men’s 56lb Dist Patsy O’Connor, Tralee Harriers came
in fourth place.

The Munster Cross Country Championships took place on Sunday last at St.
Augustine's , Dungarvan January 18th 2009. Niamh O’Sullivan of An Ríocht
put in a great performance to take first place in the senior women’s
5000m, with An Ríocht taking 2nd place in the club placings and Kerry
taking third place in the team placings (1 Niamh O'Sullivan, 11 Laura
Crowe, 20 Maura Prendeville and 26 Linda O'Connor all An Riocht ). In the
Juvenile Inter county Relays, the boys U12 Team (Dean Crowley
Gneeveguilla, Shane Lowth ST Brendans, Adam King , Jack Daly both Iveragh)
ran fantastically to take 1st place and will go forward to the AAI
National competition next Sunday in County Roscommon. In the U10 boys race
it went to a photo finish with the Kerry team (Eoin Mcgelligott, Dara
Lowth both St Brendans, Christopher o’Donnoghue and Patrick Warren
Gneeveguilla with sub Dara Moyninhan Gn) just pipped at the post and that
despite one of the team falling. It was one of the best set of results for
juvenile relays in years

On Monday last the Kerry County Board held its AGM at the An Ríocht
clubrooms in Castleisland, the meeting was fairly well attended with most
clubs being represented, although the point was made during the meeting
that there are only 9 athletic clubs in the whole county where Cork have
over 30 clubs. Gneeveguilla are however the 3rd largest rural club in
Ireland which is a great testament to the efforts of the club committee
members to bring in and keep motivated all their athletes. 5 motions were
tabled and agreed, one of the most important one was to ensure that prior
to the Kerry county champs all athletes be entered so that their AAI
registration can be checked, this is to safeguard the athletes themselves
and also their clubs. The 2009 officers are as follows
