At the presentation of the Athletic Association of Ireland Juvenile Star
Awards in the Arklow Bay Hotel, Arklow on Saturday 21st March Eilish
Fitzpatrick of Gneeveguilla AC was awarded the Kerry award and also a
special award for her achievements on the track both here and
internationally.
The 6km road race held in Croom, Co. Limerick was held on 17th March 2009.
In the senior mens race Joe O’Connor on An Riocht AC won and Anna-Meria
Costelloe of Kilmoyley/Gneeveguilla AC came 3rd in the senior ladies race.
Congratulations also to Sean Cahaliane, Dingle and Mattie Anglan,
Gneeveguilla A.C who also had a good race.
Karina Teehan of Gneeveguilla took place in the Ballycotton 10 mile road
race and finished in a time of 64.15s
In news from Farranfore/Maine Valley AC, Jim O’Shea took 1st place in the
Masters High Jump at the AAA Indoor Championships held in London. Arthur
Fitzgerald was a member of the UL cross country team that won 2nd place at
the Universities Champs. in Jordanstown and Niamh De Hora of
Farranfore/Maine Valley got a sixth place medal at the all Ireland schools
(junior) c.c also held at Jordanstown.
Saturday saw the Kerry AAI / County Indoor Sportshall Games, with a great
turnout and some fantastic performances for the athletes. There were
several athletes who won gold medals in all 3 individual events including
Amy Casey, St Brendans(4in total), Danielle O'Connor (4 gold),
Gneeveguilla and Michael O'Donnell( 4 gold), Tralee Harriers. Kate O’Shea
of St Brendans won medals in 5 events with 3 gold’s and 2 silvers and as a
U9, an athlete to watch in the future.
