The final day of the Kerry cross country season was held in the
demense,Killarney on Sunday last in wet and muddy conditions.The blue
ribboned events on the day were the Senior mens and womens events and they
did not dissapoint.Niamh O Sullivan of An Riocht AC gave a fine display of
front running leaving her rivals in her wake to take the 4km
title.Catherine Kiely of Gneeveguilla took second place with Laura Crowe
An Riocht finishing third.An Riocht took the team title here with Sheila
Kerley in sixth.
Cian Murphy Iveragh was once again a comfortable winner in the senior
mens 10km.His clubmate and novice winner Aodh O Neill had a fine run
in his first senior cross country to take second with the everpresent
Arthur Fitzgearld taking the third spot.Iveragh also took the team
title here with An Riocht in second.
Caoimhe Casey of St Brendans AC took the junior womens 4km title with
Grace Lynch Iveragh in second and in third.Stephen Walsh won the junior
mens 6km with ease with Dylan Carey St Brendans in second and Hugh
McSweeney An Riocht in third.
The juvenile relays drew huge crowds on the day and wrapped up the
overall juvenile titles in a fitting manner.St Brendans AC won the Best
overall juvenile Cross country title for the first time from defending
champions Gneeveguilla AC in second and Iveragh AC in third.In the
newly formed division 2 event An Riocht AC emerged victorious from Lios
Tuathaill AC in second and Spa Muckross AC in third.
The girls u9 was the first event up on the day and new club Kenmare AC
took victory here from Spa Muckross in second and St Brendans AC in
third.The boys u9 was won by An Riocht AC with St Brendans AC in second
and Kenmare AC in third.The girls u11 was dominated by Lios Tuathaill AC
with Spa Muckross AC in second and An Riocht in third.The most
competitive race on the day was the boys u11 with nine teams requiring
two heats for the first time in recent history.St Brendans AC emerged
victorious here with Gneeveguiil A team in 2nd and Gneeveguilla B team
in third.The girls u13 event handed another maiden victory to Kenmare AC
with St Brendans in second and Riocht in third.The boys u13 was a fine
battle between Iveragh and Gneeveguilla with Iveragh emerging victorious
and St Brendans AC making up the podium.The girls u15 was won by Lios
Tuathaill AC and the boys u15 was won by Iveragh AC with Gneeveguilla in
second.
Overall it was a very successful Kerry cross country season with some
fantastic performances.The Kerry county board would like to thank
everybody who allowed us the use of their land and also to all the
officials on the days.
