There was lots of great action over the weekend with the Woodie’s DIY
Irish indoor championships at the Odyssey in Belfast and the Munster
Indoor U13-U17 and Master championships taking place in Nenagh, Co
Tipperary.
In Belfast, Junior Claire Fitzgerald was to win the shot with ease, and
her throw of 13.11m saw her well clear of her rivals.
Laura Crowe of An Ríocht put in a brave effort to lead the 800m for much
of the race, but was passed in the last 100m by UK athlete Leigh Lennon in
the last 100m to win in a time of 2:09.57.
Jer O’Donoghue also of An Ríocht ran a fantastic senior 60m race to come
in 3rd place with Paul Hession taking second and Josh Norman of the USA
winning.
At the U13-U17 and Masters Indoors Eoin O’Carroll of Tralee Harriers took
a total of 5 medals over the two days and smashed a long standing Munster
Record in the U15 Boys Long Jump with a jump of 5.60m, He also won the U15
High Jump, 60m, 60m Hurdles, and took a bronze medal in the shot event.
Tralee Harriers also took gold in the boys U15 relay. Shane Dunne of St
Brendans won the U17 60m with a fantastic time of 7.51, and Adam King of
Iveragh won the U13 600m.
