The Munster Juvenile u9-u13 Indoor championships were held in Nenagh once again last weekend with some excellent performances as always from the Kerry athletes.On Saturday Iarla Courtney St Brendans ac broke the Munster record in the u13 60 metre hurdles running a time of 10.11 beating the existing record of clubmate Quinn Newsome McDonnell set in 2008.For good measure Iarla followed this up on Sunday with a silver in the 60m sprint.

    Christine Cooper of Spa Muckross ac competed in the u13 600m on Saturday and in fantastic style took the silver medal .Her teammate Billy Courtney took part in the u13 shot on Sunday and threw a PB of 9.40m to also win a silver medal.Aoife O’Carroll of Tralee harriers hurdled efficiently to a bronze medal in the u13 60m hurdles with her teammate Michael Linnane jumping to a bronze medal in the high jump.Rory O’Connor also of Tralee harriers won two medals with silver in the u12 long jump and bronze in the 60m.Gneeveguilla’s Brian Murphy also took two medals with gold in the u11 60m and bronze in the 600m.David O’Connor  also gneeveguilla threw well to finish third in the u13 shot with his fellow club athletes Dara Moynihan,Christopher O’Donoghue,Brian Murphy and Donal O’Sullivan taking silver in the u12 boys relay.

   Dara Lowth of St Brendans ac had two well deserved gold medals in the u11 long jump with a huge leap of 3.94m and the u11 600m.Eoin McElligott also St Brendans ac won the u12 high jump with a clearance of 1.26m and his team mate Adrian Nolan finished third in the u12 shot with 7.40m.

   The Lios Tuathaill ac sisters of Abigail and Sophie Lynch brought home two gold and two bronze between them with Abigail finishing first in the u9 300m and third in the 60m with Sophie doing the reverse winning gold in the u11 60m and third in the 600m.New recruit Dillon Robinson took Lios Tuathaill’s other individual medal on Sunday with a bronze in the u11 60m.As is becoming the normal procedure now the girls u12 relay team dominated there event to take gold with Aishling O’Mahoney,Sophie Lynch,Niamh Cullen,Ciara Donegan and Alex Dowling.The boys u11 team also did well to take bronze with a team of Scott Winters,Dillon Robinson,James Mulvihill,Mark Galvin and Charlie Johnson.Well done to all who competed.

 

Kerry had two representatives at the national senior indoor championships in Belfast last weekend with Eilish Fitzpatrick Gneeveguilla doing well to make the hotly contested senior womens 60m final and Colm Lynch Iveragh ac having a huge indoor personal best of 50.40 in the senior mens 400m.

 

The Gneeveguilla 5km road series got off to a good start on Saturday in the national park in Killarney with a large crowd taking part on a crisp spring morning in February.Niall Collins North Cork won the senior mens event and was followed home by John Barrett Gneeveguilla in second and Kenneth Barry Mallow in third.In the womens section Trish O’Donnell Tralee Harriers took victory with Mary O’Connor Riocht in second and Bridget Flynn Castlemaine in third.The next round will be held next Saturday in the same venue at 11am.
